PIXEL GAINS

Privacy policy

Last updated 1 November 2026

In short
  • Your training lives on your phone. Workouts, records, bodyweight and settings are stored there first.
  • Online features are there so friends, leagues and cloud backup work. You get an anonymous account automatically; no name or email is needed.
  • Your email is optional and only used to send you sign-in codes.
  • No ads, no trackers, no selling data.
  • The beta waitlist on this website keeps only your email and phone type, to tell you when you can try the app.
  • You can delete your online account any time, in the app or on our website.

Who we are

PIXEL GAINS is an Android app made by LucArc Labs, operated by Jigar Patel in Dublin, Ireland. We decide how the app's data is used, which makes us the data controller under the GDPR.

Questions about your data: pixelgains@lucarc.tech. This page covers the app and the beta waitlist on this website. Our LucArc Labs privacy policy covers the rest of lucarc.tech.

What stays on your phone

Everything you log is saved on your phone: workouts and sets, personal records, bodyweight entries, goals, plans, custom exercises, your hero, and your settings, including the gender you chose for your hero, if any.

  • Reminders and nudges about your own training are planned and shown by your phone. No server is involved. (Alerts about your friends and crews are different: see Friend and crew alerts.)
  • Saving a Monthly Wrapped image adds that one picture to your photos when you tap SAVE IMAGE. The app can't read your photos.
  • Exporting a CSV only happens when you choose where to share it.

What goes online, and who can see it

Online features (usernames, friends, crews, the weekly league and cloud backup) are switched on by default. They run on a database run by our service provider Supabase.

Sample data you choose to explore at the start is never shared with friends.

Crews

A crew is a small group of friends (up to 12). You join one only by accepting an invite or typing its code, and the app shows you what the crew will see before you join. Members see the same training summary that friends see, plus the plans and challenges posted in that crew. Your bodyweight and email are never shared with anyone.

You can leave a crew at any time; sharing with that crew stops straight away and your plans in it are removed. You can mute nudges, and blocking someone stops their invites and nudges and hides you from each other in crews.

Friend and crew alerts

When notifications are allowed for PIXEL GAINS, the app can also tell you when a friend or crewmate does something that involves you: a crewmate posts a plan or nudges you, someone joins your plan, you get a crew invite or a friend request, someone hypes your training, or your crew beats the raid boss.

For this we keep a push token for your phone (a random address for notifications, not your phone number), your phone's time zone, and which of these alerts are switched on, including your quiet hours. When something happens, our database sends the alert's title and a short line (for example "MAYA IS GOING TODAY") through Expo's push service and Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging to your phone. Alerts that would arrive in your quiet hours are skipped, not saved for later. Up to 3 phones per account get alerts.

The same alerts also go into a short list for your account (title, short line, which friend or crew it's about, and when), so the app can show them while it's open, with a red dot on PARTY. That works on phones without push notifications too. Only you can read your list, and each alert is deleted after 14 days (we keep at most 100).

Turning a switch off in Menu, then Notifications, stops that kind of alert. To stop them all and remove the token, turn notifications off for PIXEL GAINS in your phone's settings (the app removes the token the next time it opens), sign out, or delete your online account.

Beta waitlist (this website)

If you join the beta on lucarc.tech/pixel-gains, we store your email address, the phone you picked (Android or iPhone), where you came from (for example "ig" when you followed our Instagram link) and when you joined.

We use it only to email you when the Android test opens, when the app launches, and, if you picked iPhone, when there's an iPhone version. No newsletter, and nothing from anyone else.

The list is stored in our Supabase database in the EU. Nobody can read it through the app or the website, only us. To be removed, email pixelgains@lucarc.tech and we'll delete it straight away.

What we don't do

  • No ads and no advertising IDs.
  • No analytics, tracking or crash-reporting tools.
  • We don't sell your data or share it with anyone for marketing.
  • The app doesn't use your location, contacts, camera or microphone.

Service providers

These companies process data for us, only to run PIXEL GAINS:

ProviderWhat forWhere
SupabaseDatabase, sign-in, cloud backup and the beta waitlistEU (Ireland)
ResendSending the sign-in code emailsUSA, under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses
Expo (650 Industries)Delivering app updates, and passing friend and crew alerts on to Google. Update requests include standard details such as your phone's IP address, a random install ID, device type and app version. Alerts include the push token and the alert's textUSA
Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging)Delivering friend and crew alerts to Android phones: it receives the push token and the alert's text. The Android app also registers with Firebase when it starts (a random Firebase installation ID and the push token), even if you never turn alerts on, because that's how Android phones get notificationsUSA

Why we're allowed to use it

  • To provide what you ask for (friends, the league, backup and sign-in): performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
  • To keep the service secure and stop abuse: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f).
  • To email you about the beta after you join the waitlist: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a). You can withdraw it any time by emailing us.

How long we keep it

  • On your phone: until you delete it in the app, clear the app's data or uninstall it.
  • Online: until you delete your online account. Deleting removes your sign-in account, email, player card, friends list, crew memberships, plans, nudges, training summary, hypes, push tokens, alerts and cloud backup from our database straight away. Copies in our hosting provider's routine backups are overwritten within a short period.
  • Push tokens: until you sign out, delete your online account, or turn notifications off for the app (see Friend and crew alerts). A short record of alerts sent to you (used to limit how many you get) is kept for about 2 days.
  • Sign-in emails: Resend keeps delivery logs for a limited time.
  • Beta waitlist: until you ask to be removed, and never more than about 13 months (400 days) after you joined.
  • Anonymous accounts you can't reach any more (for example, you uninstalled the app without adding an email) stay until you ask us to delete them.

Deleting your account

In the app: open the menu, then Account & backup, then DELETE ONLINE ACCOUNT. The app keeps working offline afterwards.

On the web: if you added an email, use lucarc.tech/pixel-gains/delete-account. You sign in with a code we email you, then confirm.

No email and no phone? Write to pixelgains@lucarc.tech with your username and we'll delete it.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and object to or restrict how we use it. You can export your training yourself in the app (menu, then Export data). For anything else, email pixelgains@lucarc.tech and we'll reply within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to Ireland's Data Protection Commission.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Database rules make sure you can only read your own backup, and only accepted friends and members of your crews can read your training summary. Your phone holds the key to an anonymous account. Add an email so a new phone can get back in.

Children

PIXEL GAINS is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For bigger changes we'll also tell you in the app.
